Last week I did my first film gig. Taping gig? ...I don't know what you would call it. We filmed the Disney Christmas Parade. It was a pretty cool gig. I was Deck Chief for the Castle Stage while Neil & Pamps were at FOH with Al. Quite the experience. Kind of a mix between live audio, and studio....Actually, it was a lot like studio, except, there were a billion people there (audience) taking part in the "takes" with you....and witnessing all your mess-ups. lol. Juuuust kidding. We don't mess up at Disney World.
Our call times were 4AM...When I first saw my schedule I was like "::shrugg:: 4am...meh, just an early morning gig.".....HA!HA!HA!ha ha......ha....ahhhh...........YEA, it was an overnight. Ain't nothing "early" about 4am. That's straight up the middle of the NIGHT! haha
So the musical artists featured in this year's parade are Lee DeWyze (latest American Idol winner), Jackie Evancho (this AMAAAAZING 10 year old classical singer), Darius Rucker, Sean Kingston, and the headliner is Mariah Carey.
Funny story. I'm not one to get starstruck...like...at all. The last artist I met that had me a little star struck was En Vogue, and that's simply because I used to make up choreography to their songs during 5th grade recess. So when I had the opportunity to mix monitors for them, you couldn't wipe the smile off my face for weeks. (Clearly, I'm still proud about that.) But apart from En Vogue...eh....It just doesn't happen to me.
So when Mariah Carey showed up and I wasn't starstruck, it didn't shock me. But then....oh...but then....there was ONE person that showed up that totally made my heart rate go up.
DEBBIE. ALLEN.
The genius herself, showed up on my stage to choreograph....I wasn't just star struck...I was freagin' scared. I can't even begin to tell you how much I admire this woman. Just the thought of being in her presence makes me nervous all over again. lol
So starstruck, in fact...that when she approached me in a rush to ask where the nearest restroom was, I TOTALLY drew a blank...Not only did I draw a blank...I stuttered. (yes...stuttered.) And even though I visited the restroom a good 5 times already that day, in that moment, I had NO idea where the restroom was. (It gets better.) I had to find a fellow coworker to escort the great Debbie Allen to the nearest restroom because I had NO IDEA where it was.... I know.....I know...But I told you. I don't get starstruck. So in the rare case that I DO get starstruck, I have no idea where the bathroom is...and quite honestly, if she would have asked me my name, I probably wouldn't have known that either. ::smacks forehead::...lol...I still can't believe that happened to me.
So remember to tune in to Disney's Christmas Day Parade on Christmas Day on ABC! LOL! You won't see me, but you WILL see Mariah Carey!!! Check your local listing for showtimes and DVR it! It airs at 10am in Orlando.
Have you met any celebrity who's made you starstruck? Share it!....it'll make me feel better about my moment. lolololol
Wow. Smooth, Elaine. :)
ReplyDeleteHmm... I haven't really had a starstruck moment like that cause I haven't really like met and talked to a celebrity. I have been around 'em and I was ok. But they didn't talk to me or anything.
Though I did have moments when I saw some artists live...
You have to understand , I lived in South East Asia and it's across the world from here. Jason Mraz was coming to Singapore (I was living in Malaysia, right next to it) so I begged my dad if I could go watch him. Road a 4 hour bus ride and went through a border with my two younger siblings (12 and 14 years old at that time)...
I never thought I'd ever see Jason Mraz.
So, at his show, I was crying a little. He he he.
And then.. Missy Higgins came to HOB in Orlando early in 2009, when I was first in Orlando. And I was kinda tearing up watching her. He he he
I only have a couple stories, & I am glad there isn't more bc in theory I don't get startstruck, but I am such a geek that I used to want to be a hollywood actress (#fail) so....yea. anywhoo, my fav is when I met joey from *nysnc (ya know, not when I was 14, but um....25). He was in my vip for my birthday (yep, back in my club rat days) & I could not help myself....liquid courage & all ran up to him just to tell him I still listened to his christmas album. wow. & he pretty much had the look of "this is what my career has come to?" BUT he just smiled gave me a kiss on my cheek & said "that's good to know." Ha! I was like on cloud 9...prob even squeaked out a silly school girl shriek. ::sigh:: well, it warmed my rican heart & fulfilled one itme on my bucket list. Baaaaahahahaha
ReplyDeleteahahahahah @ Rachel! That's hilarious. Carlos, every time I hear Jason Mraz I think of you. Not shock you drove 4 hours to see him! ahahaha
